The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
